How we made Earth Month 2025 our Greenest Yet

Why Earth Month is Important

You might be familiar with Earth Day, celebrated globally each year on April 22nd as a day to reflect on our environmental impact and take action toward sustainability. Our planet deserves more than just a single day of attention, so we dedicate the entire month of April to amplify awareness and inspire change.

Earth Month is especially significant for brands committed to sustainability because the increased attention on our planet helps more people discover eco-friendly alternatives. It’s a prime opportunity for us to assist a broader audience in making planet-friendly swaps.

We want our impact to show up both inside and outside our company. Each year, we partner with a nonprofit organization that actively advances environmental preservation, scientific research, education, or ecological initiatives. We proudly donate a portion of our April sales directly to support that crucial work.

A Look Back at Past Earth Months

Here’s a glimpse of the organizations we've partnered with in previous years:

  1. 2019: Adaptation Fund
  2. 2021: Coral Restoration Foundation
  3. 2022: Pollinator Partnership
  4. 2023: Pacific Whale Foundation
  5. 2024: Bat Conservation International

Each of these nonprofit partners is a transparent, science-driven 501(c)(3) dedicated to ecological restoration and preservation, making real-world impacts we can all be proud to support.

2025 Earth Month

With 64,897 wildfires in 2024, the devastating California wildfires of early 2025, and the widespread government cuts to the National Park Service (NPS) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), it was clear to us that it was an important year to support our national forests. At Leaf Shave, this mission hits particularly close to home. Our Rhode Island community hosts a critical NOAA outpost, where a close friend of Leaf and founding leader of NOAA's "Squid Squad," biologist Sarah Salois, PhD, recently lost her job due to these cuts.

Reduced staffing and resources in parks and forests threaten the health of these lands—leading to increased wildfire risk, the spread of invasive species, habitat degradation, illegal activities, and pollution—all of which endanger ecosystems, wildlife, and public access.

To support national parks, forests, and oceans during this time, you can take action by contacting your federal representatives via congress.gov or your state and local representatives through usa.gov to address cuts to staffing in these vital environmental agencies. You can also explore volunteer opportunities at volunteer.gov or connect with local conservation groups. Additionally, supporting organizations like the National Forest Foundation (NFF), which actively works to restore, protect, and advocate for public lands and ecosystems, makes a tangible impact. Other ocean-focused nonprofits Leaf Shave has donated to include the Coral Restoration Foundation, and Pacific Whale Foundation.

This year, we’re proud to partner with the National Forest Foundation, the leading nonprofit supporting America's National Forests through reforestation, wildfire recovery, and conservation. These forests are essential for filtering air, cleaning water, and sustaining biodiversity and they need our help. In 2023 alone, the NFF planted 5 million trees and since 2001 has invested over $13 million in watershed stewardship and restoration, spanning more than 450 projects.

This year’s limited-edition Earth Month finish was Spruce! This cool-toned, earthy, turquoise-matte color quickly became a customer and team favorite.

Throughout April, $5 from each Spruce razor sold and $1 from each Spruce Shave Soap Bar sold was donated directly to the NFF. Customers could even choose the specific fund to support: General, Reforestation, or Wildfire Resiliency.

Together, our community raised an incredible $12,169 for the National Forest Foundation:

  • $1,947.04 to the General Fund
    • This fund supports the organization’s operational systems, covering everything from the finance team to on-the-ground workers who restore forests and grasslands, plant trees, and rebuild trails.
  • $3,163.94 to the Wildfire Resiliency Fund
    • Wildfires have increased in size and intensity over the past two decades, rising from an average of three million acres burned annually in the 1990s to seven million acres today. Of the 193 million acres of National Forests, over 60 million acres are estimated to need treatment.
  • $7,058.02 to the Reforestation Fund
    • This fund directly supports tree planting in National Forests, helping to secure their health for future generations. These forests provide essential benefits, including clean air, drinking water, recreation, biodiversity, and physical and emotional well-being.

This month was our most impactful yet! We are very thankful to everyone who joined us in celebrating Earth Month 2025. Your support means the world to us and it helped to protect and preserve the lands we all share.
